Tamas Matyek is the owner and founder of Cabinet Maker NYC, leading a team dedicated to producing premium custom cabinetry and architectural millwork for some of the most distinguished residences in New York City and along the East Coast. His approach blends old-world craftsmanship, modern precision, and a deep commitment to sustainability, creating millwork that is as refined as it is responsibly made.
A Philosophy of Sustainable Luxury
For Tamas, sustainability is not a marketing element, it is a core value shaped by decades of experience and respect for the craft. He is committed to using legally sourced, environmentally responsible materials, working almost exclusively with Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood.
This philosophy includes:

• Prioritizing materials sourced with forest conservation in mind
• Minimizing environmental impact throughout the fabrication process

A Lifetime of Craftsmanship
Tamas’ passion for woodworking began in Hungary at the age of 14, where he trained under master cabinet makers and developed a deep respect for precision, technique, and excellence. By 18, he was working full-time in professional woodshops, learning to fuse traditional European methods with evolving modern practices.
He later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of West Hungary in Sopron, a foundation that strengthened his technical discipline and his ability to lead and train a team of skilled craftsmen.
Over the years, Tamas has built a reputation for delivering premium custom millwork for high-end residential clients, architects, interior designers, and general contractors.
